The business is a very long standing, multi-location independent retailer.
Footfall was down in all locations and the recession had challenged the business’s
ability to trade. In particular, cash flow had been severely affected and it was
anticipated that the business might not survive. Communication between the Board
members was at an all time low and engagement was suffering.
The business is a large household pharmacy chain operating nationally throughout
the UK. The internal Learning & Development department were designing and delivering
a 3 day management programme for their 80 Area Managers. Dawn and Helen of Indigo
Performance were commissioned to assess the requirements for the business and propose
an effective structure for a Commercial Awareness Learning & Development programme.
In 2011, Helen Lumb became involved in a pilot project for Leeds Metropolitan University,
to use non-formal blended learning techniques applied by a business simulation. The
objective was to provide second year undergraduates studying Finance and Accountancy
at Leeds Metropolitan University and Sino-British College in Shanghai with a global
outlook. The course challenges the mind-set of students who feel that all accountancy
learning is around the skill of numbers.
